Making your own spiced rum is a fine way to add a truly unique spirit to your liquor shelf, or to better appreciate the art of crafting a fine spiced rum. It is also easier than you might think. Start with 750mL of Papagayo Platinum Rum in a 1L glass jar. Add a wood stave, which you can obtain online. Allow the rum to age for about 2 weeks at room temperature. Next, add spices. We suggest nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, ginger, cloves, allspice, and orange rind, but remember, this is your very own spiced rum. Be creative and use whatever sounds appealing to you. Allow the spices to sit in the jar for 12-24 hours, to taste. Then strain rum through a double layer of cheese cloth into a clean glass container.
